Portable Navigator AIS Express 4.0 - New Low Cost AIS Plotter

Portable Navigator AIS Express must be the lowest priced AIS chart plotter on the market today, because there are no hidden costs. There are other plotter programs with a comparable price tag, but with these you may have to buy the charts that you require from another company. This can increase your total expenditure to many times the cost of the plotting software. The approach taken with Portable Navigator is that the charts supplied with it are free, being vector charts made by the author of his main sailing areas. These, together with the ability to make and correct your own charts with the built in tools, enable you to build up your own personalised chart library. You will, like all good navigators, still buy printed charts for backup and safety reasons, but you may never have to buy an "electronic" chart again.

The Express version of Portable Navigator AIS was designed as a low cost solution for users who want the navigation and display facilities of Portable Navigator AIS without all the complex hydrographical data logging capabilities it provides. Portable Navigator AIS Express has all the AIS display and logging capabilities of the full product. The differences in other areas are listed below:

• No Dongle is required, the program being protected by a software key system.
• Express does not use NMEA Pro, the ESL multi COM port server. Instead it has integrated single com port handling. This recognises the following GPS NMEA sentences:: RMC, GGA.
• No Tow navigation or Tow and Swathe logging and plotting
• Position Display is limited to Lat/Long and UTM WGS84
• Autopilot Output sentences are now restricted to APB, XTE, BOD and HSC with no custom string output.
• There is now only a single view open. View and Zoom Properties dialogue no longer provides Plot Tow, Show EPE circle and Keep On Top
• Fix timing down to once per second. Express does not provide 1/10ths of seconds.
• There is no integrated Word® Document Remarks Mode log.
• In chart making mode there is no Auto Grid Automatic track line generator. Also the Yeoman plotter is not supported as a means of digitising paper charts.
• Since there is now only a single view open, there is no Window menu.
